The Truth is about Lori, a newspaper editor in Burlington, Vermont and Garth Radford, the Junior Senator from Vermont. Lori and Garth have managed to keep their relationship exciting and lasting although they live states apart. A chance to be together for a long weekend and attend a Black -Tie event honoring the Queen of England, Lori travels to D.C. Both agree that she should stay in neighboring Virginia, just outside of D.C. at a B. & B. so the media and rag reporters could not start a scandal that the Senator would have to defend. That, however, would be the least of their worries. The Senator receives word that his father, Mark, has suffered a heart attack and it is life threatening. Worried, Lori calls her mother, Scarlett to tell her of the news and to ask that she notify Gray Elliott who is not only the best friend of Mr. Radford's, but he and his wife Catherine are also best friends to Lori's family, of Mr. Radford condition. Scarlett panic's as Lori tells her the news. She realizes that all the secrets and lies of the past could resurface and her children destroyed. Unable to father children, Scarlett, and her now deceased husband, Cecil had decided to adopt Lori and another little girl, Bella so that Landon, Scarlett's biological son would not be raised as an only child. Lori and Bella knew their brother was Scarlett's son but never knew who his father was, a decision Landon made when he found out that he wasn't Cecil Scottsdale's son. (Read, "The Merger and "The Letters" to follow Landon's story) When Scarlett calls Gray, she is distraught and overcome with fear that Lori will learn the news everyone including Gray has kept from her and Garth. Deciding to travel to D.C. to see his friend, Gray convinces Mark to make what could be a deathbed decision. A web of lies and a lifetime of secrets are about to be unearthed, and nothing could have prepared Lori or Garth for the shattering chain of events that are about to occur in their lives
