The handbook describes different approaches used to evaluate the planning, design, implementation, use and impact of eHealth systems in different healthcare settings organizations. In this context, eHealth refers to a broad range of health information technologies and systems used by organizations, providers and patients to support care delivery, such as the electronic health record, computerized provider order entry and telehealth. The science part of this handbook covers the conceptual foundations and methodological details of eHealth evaluation. The practice part covers the application of the scientific approaches through such examples as systematic reviews, comparative and descriptive studies and economic evaluation of specific eHealth systems. The final part of the handbook covers the future of eHealth evaluation. It describes the growing recognition of eHealth as a form of complex intervention that is a part of the larger health system, and the need for a more strategic view of eHealth evaluation to support the complex nature of healthcare delivery."--
