Chocolate, roses, candlelight dinners . . . every February 14 loved ones display their affections with sweet gifts and age-old sentiments. But even the most extravagant gifts or ardently-spoken words pale in comparison to the self-sacrificing love described in John 3:16. God's gift to humankind was more than chocolates or roses . . . it was His only Son sent to die on a cross to remove our sins and bring us close to Him. When we believe and accept this gift, a love enters our lives that fills our hearts completely and endures eternally. We belong to God's family and “Neither death, nor life . . . nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39). You can experience this true and eternal love by praying from your heart: God, thank You for loving me so much that You sent Your only Son to take the punishment for my sins. I turn from my sins and invite You into my life. Fill me with Your love and help me to live for You. Amen.
