Relates the story of the Feigenbaums, a hasidic family from Swoszowa, Poland. Based on notes written by her father and his siblings, Deutsch describes their experiences in the Holocaust from the viewpoint of her father, Pinchas Elimelech Feigenbaum (b. 1926). In 1942, Feigenbaum's parents and three younger siblings were deported to the Biecz ghetto, but soon fled and returned to Swoszowa, where they hid on the farm of a Polish friend, Władek Kojak. Feigenbaum and his older brother were sent to the Prokocim labor camp, but escaped several months later. They rejoined their family and remained at the farm for over a year. When other Jews hidden by Kojak were discovered, the family fled to the forest; soon afterwards, Kojak was killed by the Armia Krajowa. The family remained in the forest until the liberation and then returned home, but were attacked by their Polish neighbors. They eventually emigrated to Israel.
