A landmark event in the reception of this classic work, Michael A. Lofaro's new edition of 'Black Hawk's Life' provides numerous resources for understanding the political context and literary history of the text: a new critical introduction and biographical chronology, textual and explanatory notes throughout, a full-color insert of contemporary depictions of Black Hawk and his company, a reprint of J. B. Patterson's 1882 'Continuation of Black Hawk's Life,' and two appendixes reproducing federal treaties with the Sauk and Fox Indians. This stand-alone volume complements Lofaro's larger work, 'Boone, Black Hawk, and Crockett in 1833: Unsettling the Mythic West,' published in 2019"
