Mrs. Willie M. Allen was born in rural Dollarhide, Alabama, in Greene County, Alabama, to Charlie Andrew Means and Ellen Walton Means. She attended high school at the Greene County Training School, where she graduated as salutatorian of the class in Boligee, Alabama. She later taught there as a homemaking teacher. Willie attended Alabama A&M College and Tuskegee Institute, where she received a bachelor of science degree in homemaking from the latter. She went on to receive a master of library science degree from Clark Atlanta University, and a certificate in computer science.She has also served as media specialist for the Atlanta Public Schools in Atlanta, Georgia, and a social worker in the Fulton County Welfare Department. Willie has been a feature writer for the Atlanta Voice newspaper, and reviewed books by and about African Americans. She is an active member of the Friendship Baptist Church, where she has directed Vacation Bible School.In other associations, Willie has served on the American Library Association, served on the Board of Directors of Trinity AME Church Day Care, and on the Board of Directors of Imperial Management, Inc. She also organized and served as president of Clark Atlanta University School of Library and Information Studies Alumni Association, organized and served as President of the Magnolia Links, Inc. of Atlanta, and President of Friends of Morehouse School of Medicine, to name a few of her many business and social activities.Willie makes her home in Atlanta, Georgia, and is a Competent Toastmaster.
