The cell is the structural and functional unit of all living organisms, sometimes called the "building blocks of life". Knowing the composition of cells and how cells works is fundamental to all of the biological sciences. Cell and Molecular Biology is an interdisciplinary field that bridges the fields of chemistry, structure and biology as it seeks to understand life and cellular processes at the molecular level. Molecular Biology continues to make significant progress towards understanding the fundamental molecular events that are at the core of all life. Its goal is to combine the knowledge gained in the many areas of scientific enquiry employed here - from molecular genetics to structural biology to computational biology to name a few - to obtain new insights into the functioning of biomolecules and their role in disease causality. Cell biology research encompasses both the great diversity of single-celled organisms like bacteria and protozoa, as well as the many specialized cells in multicellular organisms such as humans. Knowing the components of cells and how cells work is fundamental to all biological sciences. This book on molecular biology of the cell concerned mainly with those properties that are common to biological cells. It also discusses issues such as internal organization of the cell, nature and functions of cell components and molecular genetics.
