Indoor air quality (IAQ) is refers to the air quality inside and around structures and buildings. It has been shown that IAQ has an impact on the comfort, health and well-being of the building inhabitants. It is measured by collecting samples from building surfaces and air, monitoring the exposure to contaminants, and evaluating airflow within the buildings through computer modeling. IAQ issues are mostly caused due to the indoor pollution sources that discharge particles or gases into the air. The three main causes of indoor air pollution are bioaerosols, combustion and building materials. Diseases such as lung cancer, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have been linked to poor IAQ.
