Her contractions become stronger and closer together during the ride. Kopas can’t see the cervix, so she estimates its size by bridging the opening with two fingers. It’s a skill that takes time to master. #4 The midwife overseeing Brumble’s care is also the baby’s doctor, monitoring the baby’s heart rate with a handheld ultrasound device called a Doppler. She is constantly alert for complications.
