Description

This is a collection of professional level card tricks that are extremely easy to do. They require no sleight of hand nor moves to be practiced and remembered. These are tricks that some professional magicians use and that fool basically everyone, including magicians. There exist many easy-to-do card tricks and many professional quality card tricks, but there are very, very few card tricks that are both. It took the author decades to find, assemble, and field test this collection. In addition, tricks were chosen that people find fun and amazing. Volunteers are involved in doing tricks, often as co-magicians. This makes the magic much more entertaining and memorable. Storylines are provided to enhance the experience.FOR THE NOVICE For people new to card magic, everything needed is clearly and simply explained. No prior knowledge or skills are required. You will learn step-by-step what to do. You will quickly learn to do very good card tricks. You will be given sample storylines for many tricks to help you get started. You will be given basic suggestions for card magic in general, and for the tricks in the booklet.FOR INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED CARD MAGICIANS You may recognize some of the tricks and principles of magic, and will profit from the variations and different presentations. You will definitely encounter, perhaps to your surprise, many tricks you have never heard of. It is almost certain that you will find tricks to add to your repertoire. You will learn some largely unknown principles of card magic, including use of an alternating deck and use of a reversed deck. Clearly explained is the Gilbreath principle which is the basis for many card and mentalism tricks. Currently, there is a lot of confusion and misunderstanding about this principle.CONTENTS The first chapter gives an overview of the basic approach of the magic. Each of the next ten chapters either focuses on a specific trick and its variations, or focuses on a general principle of card magic with tricks based on this principle. Counting variations, over two dozen tricks are described. For many of the tricks a detailed storyline is provided, what you might say and do during your presentation to make the trick more involving and entertaining. These storylines can be used as is, as ideas for your own storylines, or not at all. The last chapter contains a discussion of some recommended trick decks. Included are general suggestions for use of these decks plus good tricks with the decks. The booklet also contains the history of many of the tricks, various facts from the world of magic, suggestions for presentations, and resources to learn more.THE AUTHOR William L. Mikulas, Ph.D. is a Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of West Florida. As a professor he regularly uses magic in his classes and workshops. As a psychologist he brings in important psychological components to many tricks and to the overall approach. And, as an award-winning teacher and writer, he makes this booklet easy to read and understand. Like many magicians, he does lots of magic for friends, relatives, co-workers, and some social events, and has much fun with them.
