That is not just a catchphrase, it is a fact; a renewed mind brings a changed perception even in worship. Since no one can worship without a mind; it is then necessary that the minds engaged in that exercise be in an acceptable condition for it - renewed. That could be why Paul implored Christians to be renewed in the spirit of their minds. True worship does not disregard the mind or leave it behind. Paul implied in his address to the Romans that God delights in our reasoned, or rational or even further, intelligent worship. He called it our reasonable service. Seemingly, God delights in your worship if it intelligent - that is, if it involves your mind or intelligence. And since God has begun His work of newness in us, our minds too must be renewed. I believe this is something for every Christian, as everyone can benefit from a renewed mind.
