Acute coronary syndromes affect millions of individuals annually by ca- ing considerable morbidity and mortality. In developed countries this d- ease remains the number one killer, despite significant improvements in its management over the last several decades. Acute coronary syndromes are challenging, as the field is a fast moving one with a rapid proliferation of drug and device trials. These new studies become incorporated into se- rate guideline recommendations by both American and European writing committees, which are frequently updated. Moreover, there are separate guideline recommendations for stable angina, non-ST-elevation acute coronary syndrome, ST-elevation myocardial infarction, and percutaneous coronary intervention. This may make it relatively difficult for practiti- ers to keep up-to-date with the field. Unfortunately, there is often a gap between the guideline recommendations and the care that is delivered in the ‘real world. ’ In this book we have attempted to distil the considerable literature on this topic into an accurate, succinct and up-to-date review of acute coronary s- dromes. Many specialties are involved in the diagnosis and management of these syndromes; therefore, our audience includes a variety of practitioners: cardiologists, general practitioners, emergency medicine physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, nursing students, physician trainees, medical students, pharmacists, and paramedics. We take the reader through the epidemi- ogy and prognosis, diagnosis and clinical manifestations, risk stratification, and percutaneous and medical therapies across the entire spectrum of acute coronary syndromes. We end with a discussion on current controversies and future approaches to the treatment of acute coronary syndromes.
The handbook format and ample use of illustrations make this pocketbook an excellent resource for general practitioners, emergency medicine physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, physician trainees, medical students, nursing ...
Acute Coronary Syndromes in Clinical Practice
The ESC Education Series This book is part of the ESC Education Series. The series is designed to provide medical professionals with the latest information about the understanding, diagnosis and management of cardiovascular diseases.
The emphasis is on current practice, but with an eye to the near-future direction of treatment. This book is intended to update clinicians on recent data on the medical management of patients with Acute Coronary Syndromes.
Its treatment guidelines and research results have proliferated in academia, but practical applications lag behind that research. This book addresses this void.
This book not only reviews the causes of ACS, but also provides evidence-based acute and follow-up treatment recommendations that incorporate the perspectives of all those involved in the care of these patients.
This edition includes new chapters such as low cardiac output states and cardiogenic shock, and pacemaker and ICDs: troubleshooting and chapters have been extensively revised.
New figures have been added to each chapter in this edition. This book is a must-have for primary care physicians who wish to keep up to date with the rapidly changing field of cardiology.
Enabling implementation of evidence-based practice: A conceptual framework. Quality in Health Care, ... Using principles of diffusion of innovation to improve nursing home care. ... Using group reflection in an action research study.
Divided into six sections, this book provides physicians and other health care providers with a clear understanding of the role of biomarkers in clinical cardiovascular medicine.
