A collective adventure begun by a small group of intellectuals in Paris in the early 1920s, Surrealism became one of the most influential art movements of the 20th century. This volume explores the lives and work of the artists and writers at the heart of the movement and presents pivotal Surrealist artworks. It investigates how Surrealism developed from a primarily literary movement to one which was a fusion of various art forms: painting, collage, photography, film and poetry.
