Description
This text describes in detail the form and accurate measurements of all varieties of Indian sculpture, along with their underlying spiritual vision and philosophy. This information is based on the ancient sculptural texts and the long ancestral tradition and actual experience of the Sthapatis. Divided into three parts, the first section deals with the philosophy and spiritual thought that is the basis of all Indian art forms. The second section deals with coiffures, ornaments, weapons, the use of symbols as accessories, the sculptural representations of flora, animals and birds, the fashioning of images in metal and katusarkara. The last section presents the basic rhythms and measurements used in traditional sculptural practices. This book is detailed enough to also serve as a guide book for the practicing sculptor.
