Description

"Fresh water stored in Australian coastal aquifers constitutes an important resource for humans and the natural environment. However, many Australian coastal aquifers are vulnerable to seawater intrusion, which is the landward encroachment of seawater into coastal aquifers. This report is one technical report in the National Seawater Intrusion Project. The overarching project aims to assess the current and future vulnerability of Australian coastal aquifers to seawater intrusion associated with groundwater extraction and sea level rise. This report is the literature review, data review and method development component of the project. It analyses existing literature and data associated with seawater intrusion in Australia and internationally. It also develops a method to be implemented in subsequent phases of the project to assess seawater intrusion nationally". --Online abstract.
