Description

"Mariana: A smugglers Hideout" In the 1960's and early 70', Dan Colombo, was a National Champion Water Polo player from a solid middle class family attending a major university with the ability to make friends everywhere he went. His girlfriend Erica was his partner and his best friend; she was a woman totally invested in her man, as he was totally invested in her. They were likable and easy to be around with many friends and aquaintences. The business acumen and energy they brought to the smuggling business allowed them to diversify and invest in other profitable businesses. Realizing their empire was growing and their competition was becoming more aggressive and dangerous as the years went by, they made the strategic move to hire professional security people to protect them from the less ethical and more violent people who were gravitating to this huge evolving financial opportunity. By the mid 70's the smuggling business became "Thug Haven" leaving no room for serious business people. To facilitate a transition to a legitimate business and lifestyle, Dan and Erica built an exclusive resort they named Mariana on a remote island where people who needed privacy could be assured of that and their safety as well. The Cubans were secretly assisting Grenada in becoming a communist country and the US eventually became aware of US medical students being secretly held against their will. The CIA, Navy Intelligence and Panamas General Noriega all take part in the transition of the Mariana group from smugglers to subcontractors for the US military, by preparing the island of Grenada for a US invasion. Characters are loosely based on real historical people and I believe no version of this story has ever been told, as little is known of this small group of the Baby Boomer generation who lived on the edge and came out on top, unless you were one of them. I do hope you enjoy this novel, as there are more where this came from.
