THE ALLENS. Allen is the name of an ancient family in the County of Durham, England, and of another family which lived in the County of Essex. The name in early times was written Alon, Alwyne, Alleine, Allyn, and many other ways, but in New England, as well as in England, the common spelling is Allen. In 1774, Rev.
