Este estudio explora textos literarios, fílmicos y visuales de los siglos XIX y XX centrados en la temática de la emigración española de carácter interior, continental y transoceánico. Indaga acerca del papel del cuerpo como metáfora de la alienación, desarraigo y crisis de identidad propias del proceso migratorio. ¿Por qué a pesar de la existencia de un corpus literario considerable, la literatura de la emigración española ha quedado prácticamente excluida del canon español? ¿Cuál es su relación con el imaginario nacional y con otras narrativas de contacto alimentadas por discursos imperialistas? El análisis de textos de la emigración en contraste con las crónicas de indias o la figura del indiano evidencia una inversión de la disposición colonial centro-periferia al situar al súbdito español en el margen social, cultural y discursivo.
