English summary: Not least because of the Mohammed cartoons the controversial issues of blasphemy and religious insult are once again receiving public attention in Europe. While they are here considered an anachronistic relic of times long gone, the protection of religious values is still taken for granted in other parts of the world. Based on historical, cultural, socio-legal and socio-religious aspects as well as on the context provided by both constitutional law and the laws regulating the relationship between state and church, Benedict Naarmann asks under which assumptions religious values and communities in Germany, England, India and Pakistan are protected and how existing similarities as well as differences can be explained using a comparative legal approach.
