English summary: The parish was one of the Middle Ages' most successful institutions. The Christianization of Europe and pastoral care of its population would have been unthinkable without the numerous parish churches in town and country. The parish shaped peoples' everyday life in all its ups and downs and became the most intense intersection of church and world. Exploring it therefore draws attention to important areas of constitutional and social history as well as the educational, cultural, and art histories of the time. In 21 chapters Enno Bunz examines central aspects of the parish in Central Europe from the 13th to the 16th century. In addition to thematically overarching and comparative studies, several regional case studies are offered. Eighteen of the studies, which appeared between 1995 and 2012, have been updated and expanded. Three chapters were written specifically for this volume. German description: Die Pfarrei ist eine der erfolgreichsten Institutionen des Mittelalters. Die Christianisierung Europas und die kirchliche Versorgung der Bevolkerung waren ohne die zahlreichen Pfarrkirchen in Stadt und Land undenkbar gewesen. Die Pfarrei pragte den Alltag der Menschen in allen Hohen und Tiefen, wurde zur intensivsten Kontaktzone von Kirche und Welt. Ihre Erforschung lenkt den Blick deshalb auf wichtige Bereiche der Verfassungs- und Sozialgeschichte, sowie der Bildungs-, Kultur- und Kunstgeschichte des Mittelalters. Enno Bunz untersucht in 21 Kapiteln zentrale Aspekte der Pfarrei in Mitteleuropa vom 13. bis zum 16. Jahrhundert. Neben thematisch ubergreifenden und vergleichenden Untersuchungen werden mehrere regionale Fallstudien geboten. 18 Aufsatze, die in den Jahren 1995 bis 2012 erschienen sind, wurden aktualisiert und erweitert. Drei Beitrage wurden eigens fur dieses Buch geschrieben.
