Dieses Buch erzählt die transnationale Geschichte der Benediktinermission in Tanganjika. Im Mittelpunkt stehen die Biographien der Patres und Brüder, die vom Ende des Ersten Weltkriegs bis zur politischen Unabhängigkeit des Landes für die Missionsbenediktiner von St. Ottilien im heutigen Tansania tätig waren. Die so genannten „Ostafrika-Missionare“ kamen zunächst aus Bayern und der Schweiz, seit dem Zweiten Weltkrieg auch aus den USA und aus dem „Missionsgebiet“ selbst. Durch die Aktivitäten dieser bislang wenig beachteten Akteure der Globalisierung wurden geographische, politische und physische Räume miteinander in Beziehung gesetzt und gleichzeitig neue soziale und kommunikative Räume geschaffen.
