This volume gives a summary of the synthetic methods developed during the past 20 years for the aminodeoxy sugar components of antibiotic substances, with particular emphasis on the daunosmaine-type 3-amino-polydeoxyhexoses. The systemic layout of such molecules from carbohydrates and non-sugar precursor is discussed in detail. As a supplement to the volume a unique, tabulated collection of the hitherto prepared 3-amino-2, 3-dideoxy- and -2,3,6- trideoxyhexose derivatives is presented.
