Relational databases have quickly come to be regarded as a natural and efficient way of organizing information. Duplicate data can be eliminated and powerful set-theoretic operations can be used to manipulate data. But finding the right relations for a database is not yet a trivial step for the uninitiated. This book presents a comprehensive logic programming implementation of the relational design methodology. It employs TURBO Prolog to test and establish computational viability of the relevant algorithms. It also presents the expert system prototype of a user interface, designed especially for builders of computerized databases who may have no formal training in database design.
Interactive Relational Database Design
This book covers relational database theory as well as providing a solid introduction to SQL, the international standard for the relational database data manipulation language.
The technique described in this book can be used by students for quickly developing relational databases for their applications, and by professionals for developing sturdy, reliable, and accurate relational database models for their ...

This text on the syntax and use of Interactive SQL on the AS/400 relates the principles of relational database theory to the practice of data management on the AS/400.
XML is much stricter than SQL in the characters it allows in identifiers. Characters that are legal in SQL but illegal in XML must be mapped to something legal before they can become part of an XML document.
Case studies, illustrative examples, color summary figures and tables with annotations, and other pedagogical tools are integrated throughout the text to increase comprehension and retention of key concepts and help strengthen students’ ...
