Ehe und Askese gelten als Widerspruch. Diese Untersuchung zeigt, dass sich parallel in Urchristentum und Stoa bei Paulus, Musonius und ihren Schülern ein von gegenseitiger Achtung getragenes Eheethos entwickelt und gleichzeitig asketische Verhaltensforderungen verstärkt werden. Die auf den ersten Blick konträr erscheinenden Verhaltensweisen erweisen sich jedoch als interdependent. Im Rahmen einer systemischen Betrachtung aller Beziehungen in Ehe und Familie wird hierfür der Nachweis erbracht. Durch Vergleich mit dem stoischen Eheethos wird die urchristliche Ethik historisch kontextualisiert.
