This book is based on part of a course on Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) presented to fourth year Mechanical and Aerospace undergraduate students in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. This book will cover the principles and applications of the widely used Non-Destructive Testing techniques. The basic techniques will be covered i.e. Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle Inspection, Eddy Current, Radiography and Ultrasonics. In addition the newer advanced techniques such as Acoustic Emission, Real Time Radiography, Time of Flight Ultrasonics, Thermography and Laser Shearography will be presented. Also some software applications and automated systems developed in Singapore will be described. The techniques will be described in terms of their abilities to test welds, castings, fibre reinforced composites and electronic components. The advantages and disadvantages of each technique will be described and comparisons made between the techniques. This book would be suitable for industrialists who are involved with NDT in any way. It should be of particular interest to personnel from the metal and non-metal fabrication industries.
In the generation of X-rays with an X-ray tube, the minimum wavelength?min that is produced is given by?min=hc/eV where h=Planck's constant,6.62611034Js, c=speed of light,2.9979108m/s, e=elementary charge,1.60221019C, and V=the tube voltage ...
This book provides an overview and up-to-date synthesis of the previously mentioned techniques to the field of civil engineering and includes topics relating to infrastructure and structures.
This book, titled Non-destructive Testing Techniques meets the requirement for a text book on Non-Destructive Testing and also a support text for courses on Materials Science and Technology/Materials Testing and Technology.
The authors, while updating the earlier chapters, also added new techniques in the Second edition on Neutron radiography, Pulsed Eddy Current Testing, Low Frequency Eddy Current Testing, SQUID based Eddy Current Testing and Mechanical ...
... depth to detect debonding of overlays. The need for using couplant in ultrasound technology causes serious limitation at this stage. On the other hand, eddy current technology held no promise for pavement maintenance effectiveness .
This book forms a bridge between the theoretical foundations and practical applications of nondestructive evaluation methods.
This book provides basic theoretical knowledge about NDT and also discusses its practical applications.
