"Given the fact that his music is being heard with increasing frequency both on CDs and at new music festivals throughout the world, it is somewhat of an understatement to say that Brian Ferneyhough's reputation as a composer is certainly not in need of bolstering. Until now, however, Ferneyhough's writings about music, although numerous, have appeared in various languages, widely scattered and difficult, if not impossible, to find. The present collection brings together the majority of the composer's extant writings, many of them appearing here in English for the first time, along with some edited transcripts of informal talks, and a number of major interviews. Although the vast majority of the texts deal with Ferneyhough's compositions, there are others which reflect his activities as a highly influential composition teacher, and some which touch on his recent work as a poet.
