Gerechtigkeit ist zunächst zweierlei: Ein uralter Menschheitstraum und zugleich höchst aktueller Diskussionsgegenstand. Nahezu jede politische Diskussion dreht sich um Gerechtigkeit: Generationengerechtigkeit, Steuergerechtigkeit, Gerechtigkeit der Güterverteilung im Staat und viele Gerechtigkeiten mehr .... · Ist unser Strafrecht aktuell und gerecht? · Ist unsere Steuerpolitik gerecht? · Wie gerecht ist unsere Umweltpolitik? · Sind die internationalen (Finanz-) Märkte gerecht? Gerechtigkeit ist objektiv das Ideal der Rechtsordnung. Subjektiv ist sie eine Tugend. Sie lässt sich nicht in einer abstrakten allgemeingültigen Definition erfassen. Beschreiben kann man aber ihre einzelnen Aspekte, die zwar für sich allein und isoliert den Begriff nicht vollständig erklären, jedoch in ihrer Zusammenschau ein Bild ergeben. Dieses Buch nähert sich dem Phänomen "Gerechtigkeit" zunächst historisch. Denn seine Ideengeschichte ist objektiv unsere wichtigste Erkenntnisquelle und zeigt eine erstaunliche «anthropologische Konstante». Schnell aber ist man auf diesem Weg bei aktuellen Diskussionen: Wie gerecht ist unser Gemeinwesen?
