Als 1989 die Mauer fiel und ein Jahr später Deutschland wieder vereint war, entfachte sich im deutschen Literaturbetrieb ein heftiger deutsch-deutscher Literaturstreit, der durch die Veröffentlichung von Christa Wolfs Erzählung Was bleibt ausgelöst wurde und anschließend durch Enthüllungen der Stasi-Verbindungen einiger DDR-AutorInnen seine Fortsetzung fand. Internationale Stimmen, wie Österreich, Schweiz, Frankreich, England oder USA sind hierbei eher zurückhaltend an dieses Problem herangegangen. Der vorliegende Band hat das Ziel, einen Blick auf die DDR-Literatur aus der Perspektive der türkischen Germanistik zu werfen. Auch wenn es schwierig scheint, den Begriff "DDR-Literatur" zu definieren, werden Werke von AutorInnen berücksichtigt, die vom Alltags- und Arbeitsleben oder von Reibungen sowie Konflikten in der DDR inspiriert waren. Dabei spielen Herkunft und Wohnort der AutorInnen oder der Publikationsort der Bücher keine Rolle. Zudem werden auch Beiträge zu Übersetzungen von Werken der DDR-Literatur ins Türkische berücksichtigt.
