Sağlık, yaşam kalitesinin yüksek olmasında, korunmasında ve sürdürülebilmesinde büyük bir öneme sahiptir. Sağlığın korunması ve geliştirilmesi üzerinde bireylerin davranışlarının önemli bir etkisi olduğu söylenebilmektedir. Bireyler uygun sağlık davranışları gösterdiği takdirde sadece sağlığını korumakla kalmayıp hem sağlığını geliştirebilir hem de bu durumun devam ettirilmesini sağlayabilmektedir ki bu da kişinin öncelikle kendi sağlığına sahip çıkması ve sağlık bilincini geliştirmesi ile mümkün olabilmektedir.
