By 二犬十一咪豐子愷跟弘一大師(李叔同)於1929年一起創作了《護生初集》。最初是豐子愷畫畫，弘一大師書寫。弘一大師離世後，由其他自願者接續題字，仍是畫圖先行，按語隨後，歷年增添成為整整六部的《護生畫集》。原作序言中，豐先生特意解釋「護生」一詞。「護生」終為「護人心」，希望發人之愛心。由練習愛護動物，修養愛護別人。豐子愷在畫頁之間，呈現仁慈，流灑了對動物深度愛顧。這份矛盾，多年來存在於很多讀者心中。?那年代對保育的概念之陌生。在周遭很多人沒有東西吃的時期，爭取動物權益，確然前衛。招惹批評，亦可理解。但時至今天，人類的發展已經差不多佔盡地球上所有資源，然而帶來對環境不斷破壞，動物絕種，危害是無法挽回。一棵樹、一條豆芽、一頭牛、一隻小狗，被刀割的當下，都會痛。如果能思考多一點這種痛，你能不覺得其他生命其實也一樣重要嗎？二犬十一咪決定翻畫大師的《護生畫集》，自覺厚著面皮，原作已經十足美好。不過，畢竟隔了八十年，也許畫一個新版，能有助調適時差隔膜。倘若能夠承傳護生的精神，護生、護人心，進而以行動保護她他牠它，那就算是自利利他了。
