本书选择的十几个重大战事，实际上只是波澜壮阔的抗日战争中的一些历史片段，但即便是这些片段中的一些碎片，也值得我们在60多年后的今天重新拾起。比如：面对日军的威逼，马占山以“一息尚存，决不敢使尺寸土地沦于异族”回击：在古老长城上抗敌的大刀队，一名叫侯万山的班长，在战前对老母和妻子的牵挂；戴安澜在缅甸作战时，致信家中“现在孤军奋斗，决心全部牺牲，以报国家养育！为国战死，事极光荣”。此外，还有黄土岭炮击日军“名将之花”的炮声，彭德怀“拿不下关家垴，杀头不论大小”的吼声……谁能说这些碎片会随着时光的流逝，被历史的长河淹没呢？
