全書以陳奎元同志《建設學習型黨組織 永遠保持黨的先進性》一文作為“代序”。正文按專題劃分為五大部分，內容幾乎涵蓋2010年所有的重大理論和現實問題，包括政治、經濟、文化、社會等方面的研究成果。第一篇為“加強和改進新形勢下党的建設”；第二篇為“高舉旗幟 堅持走中國特色社會主義道路”；第三篇為“深入貫徹落實科學發展觀 加快經濟發展方式轉變”；第四篇測重應用對策研究以及對2010年重大事件的解讀；第五篇側重談人文社會科學研究及相關理論思考。該書突出“前沿”性，關注重點、熱點和難點問題，重視思想性、學術性、可讀性的統一，內容豐富，信息量大，集中展示了中國社會科學院學者圍繞中國特色社會主義這一主題所取得的一些代表性研究成果，具有學術史、思想史的價值，從一個側面反映了中國社會科學院學科齊全、基礎研究和現實問題研究並重的特點，並在一定程度上反映了2010年國內重大理論活動的脈絡及其研究動態。
