Description

(Cities form a unique historical and cultural system in the continuous accumulation of time and form typical regional and cultural characteristics in the continuous expansion of space. The development of cities reflects the development process of social civilization and human intelligence. But today, human historical development has never faced such crisis of urban context discontinuity. In today’s China, more and more historical heritages are losing their original features and values in the irresistible tide of modern urban renewal, which has been gradually toolized and communized. Most urban functions are homogenized, the urban landscape is converging; the same property group replicates the same architectural landscape in different cities, and develops shopping malls and hotels with a unified business model; some cities with long history have no longer had the true features and the historical context which has been continuous for hundreds of years has discontinuity. The city loses its cultural personality and produces “identity crisis” due to lack of “identification degree”. Especially for those who are far away from home, they cannot even find their way home, and the no place for sickness causes complete loss of the foundation of the hometown. And those cities that still can carry on their own historical context and have distinctive cultural resources are increasingly scarce, which also highlights their irreplaceable historical value.)
