本书试图对当代动画艺术给予一个新的解读方式，从作为主体的“创作者”到作为观众的“接受者”，从单一学科的讨论到跨学科的思考，以多部经典当代动画为例，以浅尝即止的方式让读者领悟当代动画之新的思想、本质的回归、及其延展的边界。本书从跨学科研究方法入手，超越以往分门别类的研究方式，扩展动画研究的覆盖范围和深度，以语言符号学、心理学、生态伦理学、民族学等学科为例，结合经典当代动画作品，进行详细、深刻的分析，从特殊入手提炼出一般规律，从实践研究上升到理论研究，从而通过理论指导实践。
