在近代華北社會中,泰山信仰既是清廷實施“神道設教”的政治手段,又是民眾應對日常生活困境的文化傳統。由於西方文明的刺激,近代中國出現了社會轉型與文化焦慮,泰山信仰禮俗自清末以降不斷遭到知識界的批判、基督宗教的敵視與政府的強制改造。在內外交困之中,泰山信仰仍滋潤著華北民眾的日常生活,並呈現更為豐富的文化面相。本書從區域社會與日常生活的角度,探討了近代華北泰山信仰的演進及其境遇,從一個側面揭示近代華北社會變遷的路徑與機制。
