本书从当代中国政治思想研究的视角来反思马克思主义中国化理论和实践问题，同时以马克思主义中国化为线索梳理当代中国政治思想研究状况。书中梳理了马克思主义中国化四个维度的含义以及当代中国政治思想研究的几个基本理论问题，论述了马克思主义中国化与当代中国政治思想研究关系中所蕴含的政治与学术关系的实质。根据不同时期、不同政治思想史的研究个案，呈现了作为意识形态的马克思主义中国化、作为学术研究的马克思主义中国化与当代中国政治思想研究之间的复杂关系。
