本書分為兩大部分，共十章。第一部分（1-5章）著重講解理論知識，第一章介紹Windows環境下搭建和配置Web開發環境的過程，並建立第一個Web工程。第二章講述JSP腳本語言，包括JSP指令標簽與動作標簽、JSP內置對象等。第三章詳細介紹了Servlet的運行原理，並介紹了過濾器和監聽器的使用。第四章講解了數據庫編程JDBC，包括mysql數據庫的基本操作方法，JDBC的使用。第五章介紹了MVC編程思想，並利用該編程模式與前幾章學習的知識完成了第一個完整的用戶登陸功能；第二部分（6-10章）項目實做，進行項目的詳細設計，主體功能的編碼與測試工作，以提高讀者的項目開發經驗和強化編程技能，並對系統進行優化處理，以達到進一步鞏固和拓展技能的目的。第二版在第一版的基礎上進行了部分知識的調整，使其更加符合目前本科學生的學習。
