《水经》，是三国魏时一部有关水道的专门著作，记录了川流137道，可惜仅一万多字，过于简略，北魏郦道元为了“因水以证地，即地以存古”，为之做注，其《水经注》30多万字，记述大小河流1252条，及相关郡县、历史人物与事件、风俗传说、物产等，旁征博引，兼以文辞优美，堪称六世纪一部百科全书式的地理名著。由于《水经注》在中国科学文化发展史上的巨大价值，历代许多学者专门对它进行研究，形成一门世界性的学问——“郦学”。本次出版，原文以陈先生《水经注校证》为底本，增以精炼允当的题解、力求全面精当的注释、流畅自然的译文，让普通人也可轻松读懂《水经注》。
