The book aims at introducing the language teacher in general and the teacher of English in particular to the field of linguistics that should necessarily form the basis of his own understanding of what language is and of his classroom practice generating from this knowledge. An understanding of the nature of English as a language as such because essential for the teacher as he begins evolving adequate classroom methodology, teaching, techniques as well as the large variety of learning experiences that go into the making of what we call effective teaching.
