"Węże, czyli Studium w Szkarłacie" ukazuje niełatwą drogę głównej bohaterki, od zwykłej dziewczyny zajmującej się wymyślaniem tekstów reklamowych po stawanie się prawdziwym artystą, gdzie każdy etap okupiony jest trudem, cierpieniem, a nawet szaleństwem. Ale niestety innej drogi nie ma, choć prowadzi ona do sławy. Anna Kiesewtter urodziła się 4 września 1946 roku w Łodzi. Studiowała w Paryżu, Warszawie i Łodzi, gdzie ukończyła studia. Pracowała kolejno: jako konsultant literacki w Teatrze Nowym w Łodzi w latach 1974 – 1989, w tym podczas dyrekcji Kazimierza Dejmka; w latach 1989 – 2004 w Łódzkim Domu Kultury, gdzie samodzielnie prowadziła jednocześnie Bibliotekę Naukową i Klub Unesco; oraz w latach 2004 – 2008 była redaktorem naczelnym czasopisma „W kręgu literatury”. Autorka ma na swoim koncie pracę dla takich kabaretów, jak STS, „U Bena” oraz „Kpiarz”. W różnych periodykach ukazało się około 100 felietonów. Anna Kiesewetter specjalizowała się też w piosence aktorskiej i literackiej. Ponadto zostały wystawione niektóre jej sztuki teatralne, a także przez jakiś czas współpracowała z Teatrem Polskiego Radia. Anna Kiesewtter wydała do tej pory cztery powieści: „Ostatni wywiad z Tatą”, „Upalne lato wielkiego miasta czyli rzecz o Łodzi”, „Opowieści celtyckie” oraz ostatnio „Krajobraz romantyczny z księżycem w tle”. Ukazał się też tomik jej poezji, zebranej pod tytułem „Zaułek Upadłych Aniołów”, zawierający wiersze z lat 1968 – 1978.
