Este libro traza un recorrido a través de la figura del personaje legendario Thot del Antiguo Egipto, dios ancestral que más tarde los griegos transformarían en Hermes y los romanos en Mercurio, el mensajero de los dioses. La hermética, a la que se hace referencia en determinados capítulos del libro, es pura gnosis, conocimiento superior, esotérico, no derivado de la razón, sino de los dioses. El trasfondo espiritual de los textos herméticos, entre los que el autor incluye una interpretación personal de El Kybalion. Las Leyes Universales, atribuido a Hermes Trismegisto según determinados autores, da por sentado que los textos herméticos fueron traducidos al griego por egipcios «helenizados» anónimos o por griegos impregnados de la sabiduría egipcia de Alejandría. Finalmente, en la tercera parte, se ha intentado ofrecer una aproximación personal de la magia o heka en el Antiguo Egipto, invitando al lector a reflexionar sobre su modo de ver el mundo y sobre sí mismos.
