Esta historia tiene su comienzo con la civilización inuit, en un tiempo muy distante y en una isla llamada Mishtapaeu. Esta isla posee condiciones climáticas extremas y producto de estas comienza a sufrir grandes deshielos. Kiviok, el chamán que la gobierna, posee un exagerado poder de intuición y sabe que, de no irse de allí, quedarán bajo el agua. La única manera de salvarse es abandonarla e ir a otra tierra segura, pero para llegar a destino deben atravesar la tenebrosa isla de Taskamuku. El chamán busca ayuda en un habitante ancestral que aún vive en la misma y es conocido como “perro de las praderas”, un ser muy perspicaz, pero un verdadero amoral. Es así como la tribu inuit, junto a su chamán, emprende este arriesgado viaje, que los llevará a vivir situaciones extremas y aventuras increíbles.
