Va haciéndose su propia composición del bien y del mal, de la vida del profeta Mahoma..., hasta que ya adulto descubrirá el cuaderno de notas de su abuelo, ofi cial jurídico otomano en la península arábiga durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, en el que relata su defensa de la villa santa de Medina y el drama de tener que combatir contra otros musulmanes, otros hermanos en la fe, los árabes que se habían aliado a los británicos. Las hijas de Alá es una novela de aprendizaje y, al mismo tiempo, un fresco sobre los orígenes de la historia islámica y una magnífica inmersión en una Turquía que se debate entre la tradición y la modernidad.
