Su objetivo fundamental es revisar y actualizar las concepciones historiográficas tradicionales desde un asentimiento común: la historicidad de las categorías y las concepciones científicas, así como su vinculación a otras formas y lugares de producción, organización y distribución del conocimiento. Incorpora nuevas concepciones de la historiografía y aporta estudios monográficos sobre la dimensión pública de las ciencias, los lugares y espacios del saber y la ciencia como práctica.
