A lo largo del período de entreguerras, la evolución política, social y económica de Cataluña despertó un especial interés en la diplomacia extranjera destacada en Barcelona y Madrid. La importancia de las inversiones de diferentes multinacionales en territorio catalán, las complicadas relaciones entre Cataluña y España y su movimiento nacionalista suscitaron múltiples informes que las legaciones diplomáticas enviaron a sus respectivos Ministerios de Asuntos Exteriores. Entre las principales potencias interesadas en la suerte de la Cataluña autónoma (desde 1931) y de su futuro político, destacó la Italia fascista a través de su consulado en Barcelona y de su embajada en Madrid. De este modo, el presente volumen analiza diferentes aspectos de la atención prestada por los diplomáticos italianos a los diferentes escenarios históricos de la Cataluña del período 1930-1943.
