Per això, aquesta obra no és d'ahir ni de hui, sinó de sempre. La novel·la és una traducció i adaptació de l'original anglés. Alguns dels capítols s'han simplificat, a fi que una creació tan extensa com aquesta cabera en el marc reduït d'aquestes pàgines; però és important ressaltar que no s'han alterat en absolut ni l'argument ni el sentit últim de l'obra.
