La identificación de los sectores claves en cualquier economía, ya sea a nivel nacional como regional, es una cuestión fundamental a la que se han de enfrentar los policy makers a la hora de tomar decisiones de impulso de políticas favorecedoras del crecimiento económico. Su identificación, por lo tanto, se convierte en un objetivo fundamental para favorecer el crecimiento de las variables macroeconómicas como el PIB (Producto Interior Bruto), el VAB (Valor Añadido Bruto) o el aumento del número de empleos. El objetivo que se plantea en este trabajo es identificar dichos sectores claves y estratégicos para el desarrollo de economías a nivel regional en el marco de la economía española. Para ello se ha desarrollado una metodología de análisis de sectores claves sobre matrices de contabilidad social, cuya base son las tradicionales tablas input-output. Presentada esta metodología, se aplicará al caso de Andalucía y Extremadura, comunidades con una renta per capita inferior al 75% de la media de la UE; a Madrid y Cataluña, por ser las regiones con mayor PIB regional en España; y finalmente, al conjunto del país, de forma que sirva de paradigma o base para realizar un análisis comparativo y estructural.
