La historia de la psicología es apasionante tanto por la complejidad del camino que debió seguirse para que se constituyera como ciencia como por la enorme aportación que los psicólogos han realizado a la cultura contemporánea y a nuestro modo de comprendernos. El presente texto relata con detalle esta historia en tres partes. En la primera, Fundamentos, se proporcionan claves básicas en torno a la ciencia y se describen las corrientes filosóficas más relevantes para la constitución o comprensión de la psicología. La segunda parte, Fundación de la psicología científica (s. XIX-XX), describe el período fundacional de la psicología, en la que esta se separa de la filosofía y se convierte en una ciencia autónoma mediante la utilización del método científico experimental. Por último, en la tercera parte, Las escuelas de psicología (s. XX), se describe el origen y las características de las corrientes psicológicas principales: el funcionalismo, el estructuralismo, el conductismo y neoconductismo, la Gestalt, el psicoanálisis, la psicología humanista y el cognitivismo. Se trata de un texto completo y claro, basado en la experiencia docente del autor, que interesará no solo a los alumnos de psicología, sino a cualquiera que quiera conocer las tesis básicas de los principales psicólogos y escuelas. Juan Manuel Burgos es Profesor Titular de Psicología Básica en la Universidad CEU-San Pablo. Es Fundador y Presidente de la Asociación Española de Personalismo y especialista en antropología. Ha publicado, entre otras obras, Antropología: una guía para la existencia (5a ed.) y Reconstruir la persona.
