Como dijo Virginia Woolf, «Gissing es uno de esos novelistas extremadamente insólitos, que cree en el poder de la inteligencia, que hace a sus personajes pensar», y Mujeres singulares es un magnífico ejemplo de los dramáticos vaivenes de la experiencia y de su pensamiento.
