U ovom izboru Milorada Sofronijevića pojavljuje se, pored prvenca, kratkog romana Pometnje pitomca Terlesa (1906), skoro celokupan pripovedački opus velikog pisca modernizma ‒ Roberta Muzila. Muzil je svakako jedan od ključnih književnika XX veka, iako njegovo stvaralaštvo nastaje ili uprkos „odvratnosti prema pripovedanju” ili kao pokušaj emancipacije pripovedanja od narativnog manira dadilja, koji je, po samom autoru, stil većine pripovedača sve do početka XX veka. Muzil u svojim pričama ne želi da oslikava svet, već mu je namera da izbrazda dušu, kako je jednom i sam rekao. Suštinu umetnosti vidi u područjima „između razuma i osećanja, gde se odigravaju ona prava proširenja duše, gde se prepliću intelektualno i emocionalno”. U svojim pričama, Muzil raskida sa kauzalno-hronološkim tokom radnje, a sve povezuje značenjima, odbacujući pritom svako pojednostavljeno prikazivanje stvarnosti. Pažnja čitaoca se tako pomera s radnje na jezik i na samu strukturu značenja. Izbor tema za svoje priče Muzil nalazi u onom međuprostoru za koji „u jeziku svakidašnjice i čvrstog, uspravnog hoda još nije postojala reč”, kako stoji u Savršenstvu ljubavi.
